Start with a market you already know

You know an ordinary market — a bazaar.

People meet to buy and sell mangoes, cloth, phones — everyday things.

Everyday India: people meet, buy, sell, go home.

Now meet another kind of market

Companies can split their ownership into many small pieces.

Those pieces are called shares.

A share simply means: a small ownership interest in a company.

(We’ll go deeper on what that means in later days — today we only need the word.)

So, what is the Share Market?

Think of it like a marketplace.

Just as you go to a bazaar to buy and sell things…

…people go to the share market to buy and sell shares.

Everyday market vs share market — both are places to buy and sell.
